On 10th June 2020, TaTEDO, the East Africa regional coordinator and the national focal point of the INFORSE organized a meeting with the national members of INFORSE in Tanzania. The aim of the meeting was to discuss and come up with joint policy recommendations on development of sustainable energy solutions in Tanzania focusing on biomass energy and electricity sector. The meeting was held at TaTEDO Conference hall, MbeziJuu, Dar es Salaam.
Introduction
Strengthening national CSOs networking and advocacy for increased targets and financing of local sustainable pro-poor and gender responsive climate and energy solutions in national development strategies and their implementation in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda is one of the EASE-CA project objectives.
In May 2020, the Tanzania Renewable Energy Association (TAREA) contacted various stakeholders of biomass energy including TaTEDO on request to share views with regards to development of biomass energy sector in Tanzania.
The intention was to compile different views from stakeholder and submit to the government. The efforts aimed to foster enabling environment for the biomass energy sector development. With that understanding, TAREA being one of the INFORSE members in Tanzania was given an opportunity to share the collected views with participants of the meeting for comments and inputs.
Objectives
Objective of the meeting was to discussion policy issues around biomass energy and electricity for cooking and agree on joint recommendations to be submitted to the respective government authorities. Agenda for the meeting is attached to this report as Annex 1.
Participants of the meeting
The meeting was attended by 15 people including members of INFORSE and some members of EASE/PIPA coalition. Number of participants was limitedas a precaution against COVI-19, see Annex 2 the list of meeting participants.
