WFP and SE4ALL delegation of four people on September 6, 2024, visited TaTEDO SESO for consultation on their sustainable energy activities and clean cooking efforts provided to different communities in Tanzania.

WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian organization saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability, and prosperity, for people recovering from conflict, disasters, and the impact of climate change.  The World Food Programme (WFP) is helping food-insecure communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from climate shocks and stresses.   They also support their beneficiaries in getting the capacity to use clean cooking solutions.  For them, Clean and Modern Energy for Cooking is A Path to Food Security and Sustainable Development.

TaTEDO CEO shared the experience of TaTEDO-SESO on eCooking such as achievements of supplying EPCs to more than 10,000 households, and currently, there are electric pressure cookers of six (6) and eight (8) litres.  TaTEDO-SESO staff also discussed the coming intervention of working with TANESCO aimed at availing the 11,000 EPCs to their staff and customers, about 40 households using Power hubs in Kisarawe (Solar EPC using DC System) and Dar es Salaam households (using AC Power Hubs connected to grid electricity).  TaTEDO-SESO has also provided capacity-building training to the technicians in different areas of the country for supporting after-sales services

During their visit to TaTEDO-SESO, the delegation met the CEO and eCook staff of TaTEDO-SESO as a consultation meeting for SE4All to discuss the available cooking solutions used in institutions and households.   The delegation was led by the Head of the People-Centred Programme, who discussed how different food recipes are cooked by electric pressure cookers and the possibility of cooking similar foods in institutional cooking solutions.

During the discussion, the WFP delegates realized that efforts were made by TaTEDO to prepare and publish eCook Book for cooking with Electric Pressure Cookers.  They asked about the possibility of preparing a similar eCook Book for institutional Electric Pressure Cooking.   This may go concurrently with the preparation of the operational manual in the local language (Swahili) with local food recipes used in Tanzanian schools.

The eCooking conversation was followed by visiting the Clean Cooking Demonstration Centre to get insights into different eCook solutions available at TaTEDO-SESO.
