The project proposes to solve both problems using a rice husks gasification system which converts waste into energy. The system will utilize the biomass as feedstock for a 32 KW power generation plant. The biomass plant generates power using a technology of pyrolysis developed by HPS, and through the gasifier a combustible gas called ‘producer gas’ is obtained. The gas is then ignited and burnt inside a spark ignited Internal Combustion Engine to produce electricity.
Electricity is then distributed through a micro-grid made from bamboo or other sustainable materials instead of concrete. The project is implemented in Biro Village, Morogoro region. The project will directly and indirectly benefit more than 10,000 people who will benefit from electricity, use of briquettes and social services through electrified institutions. The project is financed through EEP programme.
- Business and Market Development for Scaling Up Supply of Improved Cook stoves in Tanzania
The business and market development project is a continuation of efforts to implement TaTEDO’s strategy for scaling up production and marketing of renewable and efficient energy products, practices and technologies. The objective of the project is to scale up business and market of locally produced improved cook stoves through market networks development to meet basic and productive energy needs of customers in the six districts of Tanzania.
The target markets for this business are households, institutions and small and micro entreprises (SMEs). The business development project, during its initial phase it is expected toundertake the following activities
- Develop and strengthen market networks for supplying improved cook stoves,
- Establish and Develop Market through Awareness Raising and Promotion of Improved Cook stoves
- Develop technical and business capacity of rural and peri-urban energy small and micro entrepreneurs to scale up improved cook stove business at local levels.
- Develop storage facilities for storing improved cook stoves before transportation to sales agents.
- Strengthen micro finance services for financing production and marketing of ICS and end users.
- Facilitate Supply of improved cookstoves from SEECO to Sales Agents
The areas selected for business and market development are Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro Regions. The areas selection was derived by the negative impacts on natural forests caused by high demand of charcoal (Dar es Salaam) and firewood (Kilimanjaro) as a result of high population densities.
